Red Flags When Hiring a Web Designer

Most web designers are good people doing good work. But the bad experiences are expensive: a half-finished site, surprise fees, or losing control of your own domain. Here are the red flags to watch for before you hire.
They will not show real, live work
Mockups and templates are not proof. A pro shows live sites you can click through. No portfolio is a serious warning sign.
Vague or moving pricing
If the price keeps shifting or never gets written down, expect surprise invoices. Insist on a clear, fixed quote, the kind we lay out on our pricing page.
They register the domain under their own account
This is the big one. If they own your domain, they can hold your site hostage. Make sure you own it, as we explain in domains and hosting explained.
You cannot reach a real person
If it is hard to get a straight answer before they have your money, it will be worse after. You want someone reachable, especially after launch.
Guarantees that sound too good
“Number one on Google guaranteed” is a lie. Real SEO is steady work, as we cover in how local SEO works.
