Should a small business focus on a website or social media? The honest answer: they do different jobs, and you want both, but if you can only nail one first, make it the website.

What a website is good at

Getting found on Google, looking established, showing your work, and turning visitors into calls around the clock. It is yours and it works while you sleep, which is the case we make in do you need a website.

What social media is good at

Staying top of mind, showing personality, and reaching people who already follow you. It is great for relationships, less great for being found by someone searching for your service right now.

How to use both

Make your website the home base, then use social to point back to it. Post a finished job, link to your site. You do not need to be everywhere; pick one platform and your website, and do them well.

Website first (it gets you found and closes), social second (it keeps you top of mind). Do not spread thin across five platforms; nail the website and one channel.
