How to Use Before-and-After Photos on Your Website

For upholstery, remodeling, masonry, painting, cleaning, paving, and more, the before-and-after is the single most persuasive thing you can show. It lets a customer picture their own project transformed. Here is how to make the most of it.

Always capture the before

This is the one people forget and then regret. You only get the “before” once. Make it a habit: every job, snap a few quick shots before you touch anything. More tips in our project photo guide.

Match the angle and lighting

Shoot the “after” from the same angle and in similar light as the “before.” A matched pair is dramatically more convincing than two random shots.

Show them prominently

Put your best before-and-afters front and center, on the homepage and in your galleries, not buried three clicks deep. Real imagery builds trust, as the Nielsen Norman Group has shown.

Keep them fast

Optimize the images so galleries load quickly. Beautiful and fast is not a trade-off when it is built right, which we cover in website speed.

Capture the before every time, match the angle for the after, show them prominently, and keep them fast. The transformation sells the job better than any words.
